Why Foster?
Dogs come into our care through no fault of their own, often due to changes in their family’s circumstances or simply being unwanted. Each dog is placed with a foster carer for veterinary treatment and behavioural assessment before being made available for adoption.
The Role of Foster Carers
Foster carers are vital to our mission, providing a nurturing temporary home for Goldies as they transition to their permanent, loving homes. By fostering, you offer stability and help us find the perfect match for each dog’s forever home. Fostering encompasses all the normal responsibilities of caring for a dog and you are required to treat them like one of the family.
Who can Foster?
Our foster carers are diverse.
Some have been with us long-term, while others prefer the flexibility of temporary care due to plans like traveling, having a baby or moving to a different living situation. Fostering is ideal, not only those who want the incredibly rewarding experience knowing you are helping a Goldie in need find its loving forever home, but also for those who want to help without the long-term commitment of owning a dog.
You don’t have your own dog at home? Well, we still need you too! Sometimes dogs that are surrendered to us, need time to settle into their new journey on their own without another dog or need one-to-one attention with a foster carer.
Responsibilities & Cost
Responsibilities: foster carers need to provide time, love, training, socialisation and attend veterinary appointments, as required
Costs Covered by RGRV: We cover food, veterinary costs, collars, leads, ID tags, worm and flea treatments and any specific training requirements. All medical treatments required during the foster period are also covered by RGRV.
Support: the fostering duration varies, depending on how long it takes to find the perfect home. RGRV representatives are always available to assist you throughout the process.
