  • Is there a cost when I surrender my Golden Retriever?

No, there is no fee to surrender your dog to RGRV.

RGRV do, however, welcome any donations to assist with the cost of veterinary and care costs.

  • Will my details be shared with anyone else if I surrender my dog?

No. Your details or circumstances will only be shared with RGRV committee members, the foster carer and/or the person collecting your dog. When a dog is placed with their new family, your details are not provided to that family.

  • Can I visit my dog once I surrender them to RGRV?

No, the dog will require a transitional period to settle into their new environment without additional interactions from a previous owner. This helps the dog transition smoothly to their new home.

  • Why adopt a Golden Retriever from RGRV?

All Golden Retrievers adopted form RGRV are desexed, microchipped and are C5 Vaccinated. They are temperament tested to ensure a good match with their new home. RGRV also provides support to help your adopted dog settle in and offer assistance throughout the dog’s life, if needed.

  • Where do the Golden Retrievers you care for come from?

Golden Retrievers come into RGRV’s care from various sources, including shelters, referrals from other animal rescue groups and families who can no longer provide a home for their dog due to life changes. RGRV make no judgement about the circumstances that has led to the Golden Retriever coming into our care, we only prioritise the needs of the dogs.

  • How much is the adoption fee?

The adoption fee for RGRV Golden Retrievers starts at $800. This fee helps us cover essential expenses such as health checks, desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm control, food, transport etc. Your contribution through the adoption fee directly supports the care and well-being of the dogs.

  • Why is there an adoption fee?

The adoption fee helps cover the costs of vet checks, vaccinations, microchipping, desexing, flea and worm treatments and any additional veterinary care the dog may require. As a charity run by volunteers, we do not receive any government funding, so the adoption fee is crucial for supporting our rescue efforts. The fee rarely covers the full cost of care, but it is vital to continue our mission.

  • Can I meet the dog before submitting an application?

No. RGRV does not have a shelter - all dogs are fostered in volunteers’ homes. To respect their time, we require potential adopters to submit an application and go through the approval process before being matched with a suitable dog.

  • When should I complete an adoption application form?

You should complete an adoption application form when you are fully committed to adopting a Golden Retriever. We recommend not waiting until a dog is advertised, as we may have unlisted dogs that could be a suitable match for you.

  • When I adopt a Golden Retriever from you, how is the microchip changed into my name and what paperwork do I get?

RGRV will transfer the microchip into your name after the successful completion of a 3 week trial period.

RGRV will email you a copy of the Vaccination Certificate and if available, a copy of the Desexing Certificate.

  • Do you offer interstate adoptions?

No, we are based in Victoria and only rescue and rehome Golden Retrievers within this State. However, we can refer you to other Golden Retriever Rescue groups in different states. Please reach out to us via our Contact Us page and we will provide you with their details.

  • What should I do if I can no longer care for my adopted Golden Retriever?
