Application to become a Foster Carer

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Foster Carer for Rescuing Golden Retrievers in Victoria (RGRV).

Our foster carers are essential in providing safe, nurturing temporary homes for Golden Retrievers as they make their journey to a permanent and loving environment. It's important to note that being a foster carer does not guarantee the right to adopt the fostered dog.

Please review the following requirements carefully before submitting your application to ensure you understand the commitments involved.

RGRV FOSTER CARER REQUIREMENTS

  • Home requirements: The foster home must have a securely enclosed outdoor area, with fencing and gates at least 1.5 metres high.

  • Shelter: Your yard must include a covered structural shelter, such as a covered verandah, entertainment area or open garage.  Kennels or dog houses are not considered adequate.

  • Age restrictions: Children under the age of 10 years must not reside in the foster home.  This strict policy is due to the generally unknown history of our dogs and the need to minimise potential risks to children.

  • Rental properties: If you reside in a rental property, you must provide written consent from the landlord’s written consent with your application.

  • Location: We only foster dogs in State of Victoria.

NOTES FOR COMPLETING THE FOSTER CARER FORM

  • It is vital that you fill out all requested information on the form to help us assess your suitability as a foster carer.

  • Please provide detailed answers to all questions.  The more information you provide the better we can evaluate your application.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR FOSTER CARER APPLICANTS

Application Process:

  • Initial Assessment: Once we receive your application, it will undergo an initial assessment to determine its suitability.

  • Property Inspection: if your application passes the initial assessment an RGRV representative will contact you to arrange a property inspection.  Please note that your application will not be approved until the inspection has been completed successfully.

  • Notification of Unsuitability: If your application is not considered suitable, you will be promptly informed.

Patience requested: As RGRV is operated by unpaid volunteers, we kindly ask for your patience regarding response times to your application.

Please email your completed Foster Carer Application Form and any other required documentation to info@rgrv.org.au

By submitting your application, you agree to the following terms:

  • Accuracy of Information: You certify that all information provided in the application factually correct.  Providing false information or failing to meet the requirements outlined in this application or the foster carer agreement may result in the termination of your rights to foster an RGRV dog.

  • Foster Care is not Adopting:  As a foster carer, you understand that the primary role is to provide temporary care to a dog whilst assessing the needs of the dog to find their forever home.  Foster caring does not mean adopting the foster dog.

  • Reference Checks:  You consent to RGRV contacting any references you provide as part of the vetting process.

  • Property Inspection and Foster Carer Agreement: You agree to allow a property inspection and will sign a foster carer agreement upon approval.

  • Managing a Foster Dog: I understand that I will only use the behaviour method that RGRV subscribes to and will not use any physical chastisement on a dog for any reason.

  • Right to Refuse: RGRV reserves the right to refuse any applicant.  We are not required to provide detailed reasons for our decisions and will not engage in further correspondence about rejections.
