Adoption Application Form

Thank you for your interest in adoption a dog from Rescuing Golden Retrievers in Victoria (RGRV).

Please note: The adoption fee for RGRV Golden Retrievers starts at $800

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for adoption:

  • Age restrictions: we do not place dogs in homes with children under the age of 10 years.  This policy is strict due to the generally unknown history of our dogs, aiming to minimise potential risks to children.

  • Home requirements: your residence must have a securely enclosed outdoor area, with fencing and gates at least 1.5 metres high.

  • Yard size: we typically do not place dogs in homes with small yards (less than the size of a double car garage), unless the dog is elderly and less space can be considered suitable.

  • Housing type: we do not place dogs in apartment blocks, as our dogs generally require more space and a specific living environment.

  • Shelter: your yard must include a covered structural shelter, such as a covered verandah, entertainment area or open garage.  A kennel or dog house does not provide adequate shelter.

  • Application process: the adoption questionnaire must be completed by the person(s) who will be named as the new owner(s).  We cannot accept questionnaires completed on behalf of someone else, including family members.

NOTES FOR COMPLETING THE ADOPTION APPLICATION FORM

  • Please complete all sections of the form (incomplete forms will not be processed). 

  • Please provide detailed answers to all questions.  The more information you provide the better we can evaluate your application.

Patience requested: As RGRV is operated by unpaid volunteers, we kindly ask for your patience regarding response times to your application.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

  • Prioritising Dog Needs:  at RGRV, the welfare of our dogs is our top priority.  This means that even if your application is approved, there may be a waiting period before a suitable dog becomes available.  Your application will be placed on a waitlist during this time.

  • Waitlist Confirmation: You are required to confirm your continued interest in adopting every three months by emailing info@rgrv.org.au. Failure to confirm within this period will result in removal from the waitlist.

  • Adoption Goal: Our goal is to place each dog into a forever home.  Therefore a good fit between the dog and the adopter is essential.

By submitting your application, you agree to the following terms:

  • Accuracy of Information: all information provided in the application must be factually correct.  Providing false information or failing to meet the requirements set out in this application or the adoption contract may result in the loss of the right to adopt.

  • Reference Checks:  You consent to us contacting any references you provide as part of the vetting process.

  • Trial Period:  The successful applicate will agree to a three-week trial period with the dog to ensure a good fit before the adoption in finalised.

  • Property Inspection and Adoption Agreement: You will allow a property inspection and sign an adoption agreement before the adoption process is completed.

  • Right to Refuse: You acknowledge and agree that RGRV reserves the right to refuse any applicant.  We are not obliged to disclose detailed reasons for our decision and will not enter into further correspondence regarding the matter.
